Minggu (29/01/2012), Jakarta yang baru saja selesai diguyur oleh hujan. Namun, hujan yang baru saja menerpa Jakarta pada pagi hari ternyata tidak menyurutkan semangat mahasiswa, dosen serta karyawan Universitas Al Azhar Indonesia untuk menggowes sepeda mereka menuju Monumen Nasional. Berhubung pada hari minggu tersebut merupakan Hari Bebas Kendaraan Bermotor (HBKB) yang diadakan oleh Pemerintah Daerah Jakarta tiap minggu ke-2 dan minggu ke-4 pada setiap bulannya, maka para civitas akademika UAI ikut serta dalam kegiatan yang telah diadakan oleh Pemda Jakarta mulai tahun 2002.
Bertempat di Lobby Universitas Al Azhar Indonesia, civitas akademika UAI memulai acara gowes sepeda bareng yang bertemakan “Al Azhar Bike To CFD, Fun, Style and Togheterness”. Gowes sepeda bareng ini merupakan hasil kerjasama antara Biro Promosi dan Pendaftaran Mahasiswa Baru (Biro PPMB) serta Korps Mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi (KOMIK) UAI. Gowes bareng ini mengambil rute dari UAI hingga Monas dan kembali lagi ke UAI.
Selain gowes bareng, UAI juga membuka stand yang berada di depan shelter busway Bendungan Hilir. Pada stand tersebut, UAI mengadakan kegiatan bakti sosial berupa cek berat dan tinggi badan, cek gula darah, cek asam urat serta konsultasi kesehatan gratis. Berkaitan dengan kegiatan bakti sosial tersebut, UAI menyelenggarakannya sebagai salah satu dari tri dharma perguruan tinggi yaitu pengabdian kepada masyarakat.
