Pusat Kajian Komunikasi FISIP Universitas Al Azhar Indonesia (Puskakom FISIP UAI), bekerjasama dengan Koalisi Nasional Hari Tanpa TV menyelenggarakan kegiatan Diskusi “Penguatan Partisipasi Publik Dalam Meningkatkan Kualitas Penyiaran” dan Konfrensi Pers Hari Tanpa TV. Kegiatan yang secara kontinue dan konsisten selama 4 tahun berturut-turut (2007-2010), merupakan bentuk kepedulian terhadap isu sosial yang terkait dengan TV, anak dan kampanye literasi media.
Kegiatan Hari Tanpa TV ini tidak dimaksudkan untuk memojokkan industri televisi, namun lebih menekankan pada sikap kritis yang dimiliki oleh keluarga dan anak-anak dalam menonton televisi. Sebagai sebuah media massa, televisi memiliki fungsi dan disfungsi yang akan memberikan dampak – baik positif dan negatif – kepada pemirsanya. Sayangnya, televisi sekarang ini lebih menitikberatkan isi siarannya pada hiburan daripada edukasi. Melalui Hari Tanpa TV, kita bisa berupaya untuk mengurangi ketergantungan anak dan keluarga pada televisi. Melalui Hari Tanpa TV, kita juga dapat memperkenalkan kepada anak bahwa dalam menggunakan media termasuk televisi, ada aturannya. Aturan itu setidaknya menyangkut dua hal: isi media mana yang boleh dan tidak boleh dikonsumsi, serta berapa lama dan kapan anak-anak boleh mengakses media tersebut.
Kegiatan Diskusi “Penguatan Partisipasi Publik Dalam Meningkatkan Kualitas Penyiaran” menghadirkan narasumber Bapak Dadang R. Hidayat (Ketua Komisi Penyiaran Indonesia Pusat) dan Bapak Paulus Widiyanto (Ketua Masyarakat Komunikasi dan Informasi), dengan moderator Soraya Fadhal dari Pusat Kajian Komunikasi FISIP Universitas Al Azhar Indonesia. Sementara kegiatan Konferensi Pers menghadirkan narasumber Bapak B. Guntarto (Koalisi Hari Tanpa TV 2010/YPMA), Paulus Widiyanto (Ketua Masyarakat Komunikasi dan Informasi), dan Ade Armando (Akademisi), dengan moderator yang sama.
Kegiatan ini dihadiri oleh anggota pendukung Koalisi Nasional Hari Tanpa TV yang terdiri dari berbagai elemen masyarakat, LSM pemerhati anak dan media, Komisi Penyiaran Indonesia, anggota DPR, ibu rumah tangga, guru dan pendidik dari beberapa sekolah serta para akademisi dan civitas dari berbagai Universitas atau Perguruan Tinggi di Jakarta sepertu UPN Jakarta, Universitas Moestopo, Universitas Indonesia, The London School of PR, dan sebagainya. Acara ini juga dihadiri oleh insan pers dari berbagai media lokal dan nasional, baik cetak, elektronik dan internet. Konferensi pers Hari Tanpa TV ini bertujuan untuk menginformasikan kepada media massa sebagai penyambung informasi kepada masyarakat—tentang rangkaian kegiatan HTTV 2010. Kegiatan ini mendapatkan respons cukup positif dari para hadirin. Pertanyaan, komentar, dukungan dan saran banyak disampaikan terkait dengan dukungan terhadap Hari Tanpa TV dan kampanye literasi media yang dilakukan oleh kalangan kampus, LSM dan dunia pendidikan. Acara ini mendapat publikasi berbagai media nasional, seperti dalam pemberitaan Kompas Cyber.com, The Jakarta Post, dan sebagainya.
